"Pretty damn awesome"

Gotta love Gunbound! I've been playing since it was called Thor's Hammer, now it's all "World Champion"....

Fancy Pants Adventures

"A sweet merger of Mario and Sonic styles of 2D"

date: March 18, 2006

Mario is slow, linear, precision-jump, stomp-on-enemy-head gameplay.
Sonic is fast, twisty, jump-and-see-what-happens, roll-into-enemy gameplay.
This merges the two almost perfectly, giving total control over your character with the minimum of effort, a sense of both precision and speed not usually found; most game creators don't even bother with acceleration.

I have only one FEATURE REQUEST:
When on a platform which can be landed on by jumping upwards "through" it, you should be able to "drop through" by holding DOWN while in freefall, or holding DOWN and pressing JUMP while standing. This is a common element in the majority of platformers - it attempted the maneuver to no avail. Thanks in advance if you do implement this suggestion - otherwise, good luck with designing World 2!

Author's Response:

Thanks for the awesome review! Believe it or not, I actually tried to put in that very feature, but just couldn't get it to feel natural. I'll try again for World 2, though, because I do think it would be nice to have.

Mario Bros. Arcade

"Pretty Good"

submission: Mario Bros. Arcade
date: February 25, 2006

I found it a little predictable, having played the GBA version to death and knowing pretty much any blooper that could be written for this game. I fear that fans of Mario Arcade found it predictable and that people who don't know &/ haven't played it found it boring or confusing.
Oh well, well done for your frontpage - keep it up, try a different style next Flash.

When Robots Attack

"Definitely genius"

submission: When Robots Attack
date: January 24, 2006

A great work of a Lemon Demon song mostly unheard - one of the ones that Neil doesn't offer for free on his site. Nice effect, styling, and musical sync. Brilliantly executed.

You must be completely sick of being compared to TUS, but here's some praise: Your animation is superior. However, altf4 got the slightly better song. Having just watched both alternately, they're both amazing. It's not really suprising that you're getting so much commentary on TUS though, it's rare that two Lemon Demon songs get Flashified within a month of eachother; and even rarer that one singer/songwriter online has more than one animator.
Neil is a star of the internet, as always. You're great too, never forget that - your independant stuff is just as good, Up Skit Creek being my personal fave.

Ball Revamped 4

"Sweet."

submission: Ball Revamped 4
date: January 19, 2006

850 seconds (14 minutes 10 seconds), 88 deaths; mostly on the bosses alone. I'm glad I upgraded my RAM, the 'particle' effects in this game are completely overdone and must be murder on slower machines. Rotation doesn't help.
Easiest ball game so far, Creator was a tough sunuva~, but not impossible. His pattern is nice and easy though... up, down, dodge garbage, wait at the bottom, pop up quickly, hide in top right corner, move left and into the gate. Just the execution is tough.
Good work, keep it up, hope Armor Games paid well.

8-Bit Theater Part 5

"Mediocre."

date: December 28, 2005

Poor voice acting, borrowed dialogue (thus unoriginal), poor animation where you weren't just copying Clevinger's original design.... Misteroo's 8BITCH FYVE was far superior to this, even if you ignore it as a parody. At least the miserable voice acting in that was unintentional. I actually thought you'd given up after being ripped to shreds by that. But no, it turns out you still went ahead and made your mediocre copy of the actually quite good 8-Bit Theater. It's better in comic form, leave it that way.

The 8-Bit Wizard

"I did okay."

submission: The 8-Bit Wizard
date: December 24, 2005

290/600, although I double-clicked by accident and didn't see one question. I was born into the second golden age of gaming, the SNES and the Megadrive, so I guess that's about right. irecognised stuff like Metal Gear and Final Fantasy, but release dates? Give me a break!
Nicely constructed though. It tells me I need to download more NES carts for my emulator.

Pain...

"Very good."

submission: Pain...
date: November 7, 2005

I liked it. I believe it's a little too simple to label and break apart pain into these eight categories, especially as these are only emotional pains; falling over and hurting myself is defined as pain in the obvious, physical sense. No morals there.
I fear this Flash will been seen by most as just "EMO" or "not funny", because Newgrounds doesn't typically host this type of stuff.
I liked it. I fall into the "Confusion", "Insecurity", and "Seperation" groups. (School is difficult for me, hence the first two. I live in the UK and my girlfriend lives Stateside, hence Seperation).
I hope anyone who reviews this has the decency to pause for thought before rating harshly.

Only complaint was the severe cliche-grinding. Oh, look, you can see their hearts. Not original, but still effective in getting across the message. Cliches and stereotypes are usually the easiest way to communicate a message.
